Nick Weldon put me onto the fact that most jazz real books have the chords and melody wrong for this fine bossa. So I set about transcribing from a few different recording and came up with this version which is more true to Jobim's original intention.
Noticeable differences from most wrong real books include:
- Melody in A sections starts on beat 2.
- Chords at bars 9-11 do a classic cadence from G- to Dmaj7.
- Bar 13 melody starts with A natural and uses Ab in the answering phrase at the end of the bar.
- Chromatic descent bar 29 to the bridge (which seems to deny key of A and re-affirm F) with a melody that does not fit the English words.
- Bar 38-40 in A minor, not A major.
- Bar 37 is classic IV bVII7 , not starting on II-.
